Quality of Gratitude

Sunday 15th December 2013

Sukhi Hotu!!

On this beautiful Sunday morning Brother Tan Siang Chye shared with us the Dhamma on Gratitude.

Gratitude?? -
It is actually a positive mental quality that comes from reflecting on the good things one has received in life. it allows one to reflect on the goodness and contribution of others. ( well ... what about taking a moment to reflect upon yourself )
In fact gratitude is more than just appreciating what others have done for us. It is inspired by a sense of being truly thankful.

The benefits from being grateful is one is able to widen the social circle in one's existence. On the contrary if one is to deny gratitude of others one can become cold and lonely, unable to relate to others positively and meaningfully. One can become unhappy with things that are around them and seek even more by fear of not having not enough.

Out of the 38 blessings In the Buddha teaching 'gratitude' (kattnuta)is one of them.

What Gratitude, then, should we reflect on in our life...

Firstly, one should reflect on the WISDOM we have received  - from our parents, teachers, relatives friends ,elders who have made us wholesome.
Secondly, people who have helped us secure our present social position. Thirdly, be grateful to the conditions that have ensured our good health, next  be grateful to beings who have contributed to our good kamma  and finally the many good and kind people who have helped smoothen our lives.

Looks like we should be gateful to be in a very conducive environment where we can practise the Dhamma without fear or favour.

This is so much knowledge that yours truly grasped from the sharing. It has brought about a lot of reflections for yours truly to do. What about you?

May all receive the highest blessings after much reflections.

Saddhu Saddhu Saddhu...
