WEEKLY ACTIVITIES 27th AUGUST to 2nd SEPTEMBER

YOUTH SECTION GATHERING ON 27th AUGUST 2011 (SAT)
In line with the School Holidays and Hari Raya Puasa, the gathering this week is OFF.

DHAMMA TALK
There will not be any Dhamma Talk this Sunday, 28th August.

SUNDAY DHAMMA SCHOOL
In line with the Hari Raya Puasa school holidays, the Sunday Dhamma Class for children will be OFF this Sunday (28th August) and also the following Sunday 4th September. Class will resume as usual on 11th September. 


INTRODUCTION TO SATIPATTHA MEDITATION CLASS

Bhante Nyanaramsi will be away for the next 4 weeks and class will resume on 20th September. However, the PHBS Centre will continue to be opened for GROUP SITTING every Tuesday. Do come and join in the sitting.

New/Full Month Offering


The PHBS Centre will be opened on New and Full Moon day from 9 to 11am to allow devotees to offer flowers, light and incense. There will be chanting and devotees can also take the 8 precepts if they wish to. Kindly contact Sis Jasmine @012-3875635 for more details.

Biodata:

Mr Vijaya Samarawickrama (also well known as Uncle Vijaya) is a very inspiring and respected Buddhist teacher that has inspired many through the lens of Buddhism by his noble action in expounding the Dhamma. He graduated as a specialist in the Teaching of English as a Second Language from the Malayan Teachers’ Training College in Liverpool, England and later on a B.A.(Hons) in English and Linguistics from the University of Malaya and an M.A. (Drama and Theater).

He is not only a dedicated teacher but a talented writer that has assisted the Late Chief Venerable, Ven K Sri Dhammananda with his numerous publications. He travels around the world to share the gift of Dhamma by delivering talks and organising workshops and seminars in schools, colleges, universities and Buddhist organisations.

Sunday Dhamma School - Term Break

Free Medical Clinic - Every 3rd Saturday of the Month

FREE MEDICAL CLINIC
Venue: Klang
Time: Every Third Saturday of the Month @3.00 to 7.00pm



The Free Medical Clinic is a Community Project jointly organized by Padmasambhava Loving Children Association & Putra Heights Buddhist Society. The patients include inmates of the Padmasambhava Loving Children Association orphanage, single mothers and poor residents in nearby areas. All adult patients were also given blood glucose and blood pressure screening during the service.

The Free Clinic is currently treating about 100 patients during each session and the expenses for medicine and medical equipment are from donations collected from generous devotees and friends during the last few months. Due to the large turnout, our MEDICAL FUND is used up very quickly and need URGENT replenishing. We are now appealing for fresh donations and if you would like to donate towards this meritorious cause, please do not hesitate to contact us. Cheques should be made payable to "Putra Heights Buddhist Society" or bank into our Public Bank (Acc 3161987208) and the bank-in slips emailed to us at 
putraheightsBS@gmail.com to enable us to issue the receipts.

Bro. Teoh Kian Koon is a Civil Engineer by profession. He graduated from the University of Malaya with a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering in Feb 1979 and had since May 2001 retired officially from his Engineering career. He had been a spiritual practitioner (or seeker of Truth) cum Meditator since 1971.

Since his retirement he has been sharing his spiritual understanding and experiences with serious and keen spiritual practitioners, cultivators, seekers of truth, Dhamma friends and meditators who have affinity with him. So that they may find success in their search for true peace, happiness and true meaning to Life via understanding Life leading to liberation from birth and death and all mental suffering to become a more compassionate and virtuous human being to truly be a blessing to the world and society as a whole.

Sis Chan Kah Yein holds a Ph.D in Mathematics Education and teaches in a private college. She founded and coordinates AnimalCare, a charity that helps in the spay-neuter and medical needs of stray animals.

Kah Yein gives public talks regularly on cultivating compassion to animals, and ways to lead a simpler and more spiritual life. To date, she has written six books and many of her talks have been produced on audio CDs, all for free distribution.

With a love for all things small and simple, her motto is to embrace simplicity and travel light in life.

Pattidana (In Conjunction with 7th Lunar Month) on 7th August 2011

In conjunction with the 7th Lunar month, the PUTRA HEIGHTS BUDDHIST SOCIETY will be organizing a Pattidāna Ceremony on August 7th, 2011 (Sun), to share/ transfer merits to our departed relatives and friends. We welcome all devotees and friends to the ceremony.

Introduction to Satipatthana Meditation

Meditation Class
Venue: PHBS Centre
Time: Every Tuesday @8.30 to 10pm from 19th July to 23rd August

Bhante U Nyanaramsi will be conducting an Introduction to Satipatthana Meditation Class from 19th July to 23rd August 2011. Do come and join the session each Tuesday from 8.30pm to 10.00pm. Yogis are advised to wear loose pants and T-shirts so that they are able to sit comfortably. The teachings will be conducted in English and Mandarin, and will include about 30min of walking/sitting meditation towards the end of each session.

Youth Section Gathering - Every Saturday

Come and join the Youth Section Gathering (13 yrs onwards) on Saturday afternoons from 4.00-6.00pm at PHBS. Once a month, the Youth Section will join the Free Medical Clinic in Klang to experience first hand "Compassion in Action". 

We welcome all youths in Putra Heights TO COME & SEE our activities (puja, hymns, contemporary video sharing & discussions). This weekly gathering can be an impetus for constructive channelling of youth energy for meaningful endeavours such as youth leadership, volunteerism & project development based on compassion,  wisdom & gratefulness.
